When my client Audrey shared her idea of creating a book filled with family stories about her mother’s beloved horse—now her children’s grandmother’s horse—I had some doubts at first: would I be able to draw the horse illustrations well?
However, as the work progressed, I gained confidence and began to truly enjoy every stage of the process.
When I started illustrating stories about Jerry, I aimed to keep them in a classic style while preserving the feeling of quick, lively sketches.
.
I really wanted to keep the illustrations in a noble, muted color palette to emphasize the spirit of the time.
After all, they show the grandmother in her youth — these are her stories about her beloved horse.
The events take place in Fort Bragg, California, so it was important to capture the local landscape and the distinctive character of its nature — something I absolutely love.
So, in this album, you’ll find the illustrations created for the story “Jera and the Train Trestle.”
This concludes the illustrations for the first story.
You can see the illustrations for the second story in the next album.
